The Executive Committee of AUB Faculty United has unanimously decided to designate Prof. Imad Elhajj as the 2014 Kamal Salibi Academic Freedom Awardee. This decision is based on a unanimous recommendation by the Award’s Advisory Committee, which reviewed a total of 5 submitted nominations.
“Dr. Imad Elhajj, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and one of the founding members of AUB Faculty United, has distinguished himself among colleagues for his unfettered commitment to the welfare of the faculty body and the university at large. He has served on numerous task forces and committees where he consistently advocated for transparency, accountability, and the advancement of an environment conducive to an open exchange of ideas. Noteworthy among those are the Housing Taskforce and the Faculty Working Group on data privacy. His voice and role in making the University Senate an active and vibrant forum are also widely acknowledged, as has been his ongoing role in contract negotiations with the university’s administration. In January 2014, Professor Elhajj was one of the three signatories of the open letter asking President Dorman to stop the IT network development deal, that eventually lead to the historic University Senate vote to withdraw confidence from COO DeBin”.
